Full Circle

I've been a comic book fan my whole life. There have been times where I've been more passionate about them than others but I've always maintained at minimum a high appreciation for the art form. When I was a child I used to collect comic books. My two older brothers turned me on to collecting. One of my earliest memories of collecting comics is when I was six years old and my dad bought me, the just released, Marvel's John Carter Warlord of Mars #1. I vividly remember it. I was in my kitchen and a disagreement with my brother arose over ownership of the comic book. My dad came in and settled the dispute by writing my name on the inside cover of the comic book. It's a very fond memory but he wrote on a #1!

I collected up until my mid-to-late teens and then slowly stopped. I still loved comics but my passion for collecting had faded. Throughout my late teens and into my twenty's I always watched the animated shows on TV and the movies. Like I said, I always loved and respected the characters and stories.

It wasn't until I hit my thirties that my passion for this subject matter peaked. I dedicated a part of my basement to this passion. A place where my family and I can escape and be swept away into amazing worlds, great stories and strange characters.

I even started building comic character related gear. I built Thor's Hammer Moljnir, Daredevils billy club and the Kingpin's cane.

So, with my passion for comics at an all time high it appears I've gone full circle. I started my comic collecting again today. The first shipment of my order from my local comic shop came in; Iron Man Marvel's Greatest Comics #1. This is what the beginnings of my comic collection looks like:

and this is what's coming:

CAPTAIN AMERICA Marvel's Greatest Comics #1
CIVIL WAR Marvel's Greatest Comics #1
HULK Marvel's Greatest Comics #1
NEW AVENGERS Marvel's Greatest Comics #1
PUNISHER MAX Marvel's Greatest Comics #1 (MR)
THOR Marvel's Greatest Comics #1
WOLVERINE Marvel's Greatest Comics #66
WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ Marvel's Greatest Comics #1
SIEGE #1 (OF 4)
SIEGE #2 (OF 4)
SIEGE #3 (OF 4)
SIEGE #4 (OF 4)

....and I'm just getting warmed up. It's good to be back!

  1. It's always great to see both new readers drawn into the wonderful world of comics as well as those that have rediscovered an appreciation for this fine art form. Welcome back and good collecting to you!
